Tools

The tools LoopCode's agent works with — files, search, shell, git, web, browser, Office documents, code intelligence, subagents, tasks and memory. Use these names in permission rules and hooks.

These are the names the agent and your permission rules and hook matchers use. Tools from MCP servers are added as mcp__<server>__<tool>.

Files

ToolDoes
ReadRead a file, or a line range: text, or the text of a PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Excel or OpenDocument file
WriteCreate or replace a file. An existing file must be read first in the session
EditReplace one unique block of text with new text
MultiEditSeveral replacements in one file, as one reviewed diff
ApplyPatchAdd, update, move or delete several files in one call, all or nothing
ListFilesList files recursively, skipping dependency, version-control and sensitive folders
GlobFind files by a pattern such as **/*.ts
GrepSearch files with a regular expression (ripgrep when available)
ViewImageLook at an image in the project: a screenshot, a diagram, a design mock

Commands

ToolDoes
BashRun a shell command in the project, in the sandbox when it is on
TerminalRun a command in a pseudo-terminal; long-lived ones (dev servers, watchers) keep running
TerminalsList the running terminals, or read one's output
MonitorWatch something in the background and react as it changes: a log, CI, a deploy
TaskOutputRead the output of a background task
TaskStopStop a background task

Git

ToolDoes
GitRead git state: status, diffs, logs, branches

BrowserScriptRun a script in the page

Office documents

ToolDoes
OfficeScriptRun a builder script that writes Word, PowerPoint or Excel files, and check what it wrote

LoopCode also checks existing documents, lists the available styles, and looks at pages as images. See Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Subagents

ToolDoes
ExploreA read-only subagent that answers a question about the code
AgentA subagent that makes a bounded change and runs the checks that cover it (optionally in its own worktree)
VerifyA subagent that runs tests, builds, typechecks and the app, and reports
SendInputSend a follow-up to a subagent, keeping what it has done

CloseAgentClose a subagent no longer needed

Your custom subagents appear as tools too.
